But why now? Ahalaya came out with brutally honest answer that she especially felt very stigmatized in her village for not having a baby and she was often called names such as “childless lady” she saw numerous doctors and tried many times to get impregnated but nothing worked so she feel this is the happiest time for her now.

Dr Umashankar who monitored the whole delivery said since she was a relatively healthy lady devoid of heart or sugar related complications it was possible for her to achieve such a feat at her age. She has apparently broken a record for being the oldest mom in India too. The last lady who gave birth at an advanced age was Daljinder Kaur, aged 70.
A controversial situation

But not everyone is happy with the event as they openly criticised the couple for not being forward thinking enough and securing the future of the girls. Well this is the dichotomy of Indian society as long as they were childless, they were ostracised relentlessly in their village all along their married life, which was acknowledged by Erammatti herself.

Now that she has conceived and given birth the same set of people are criticising them for not having any safety net for the twin girls in the future situation when the parents die and the babies will still be very young to take care of themselves. This shows the societal pressure to get married and be parents or grandparents by a certain time otherwise the society has a full right to insult and bully you.

Getting married and having a baby is not a personal decision in majority of Indian families and especially not at all in rural backwaters from where these couple belongs. These decisions are being made by their families and parents since they were kids and if for some reason the bride is not able to give child to her husband she is made to feel incomplete or “defective “in some way so much so that they keep trying to conceive like these couple till this age!.

Anyways as of now there is nothing to cloud their joy as they have finally got what they have been praying for almost 6 decades now. And guess what, it’s a double bonanza gift from the almighty this time, may be as a token for their extra patience perhaps!
